So many places, so little time.
I'm interested in how many you, or the readers, have time to be active in at any given period of time. And does being active in many enhance your appreciation for 3-D worlds or water it down?
It's a fascinating topic.

Susan,

I'm primarily active in Second Life, but have strayed into Kaneva, There, Stagespace and a few others...

There's too much going on to keep track of everything, I think and cling to some sort of sanity ;)

Second Life is my favorite, but It can't hurt to see what others come up with

At twitter Cisco's Christian Renaud commented: "nice map! I am curious how you decided what to include and what to not. Specific criteria?
"

Well, not really. I was in doubt about many 2D virtual worlds, the ones mentioned on the Virtual Worlds Review site since I'm not familiar with most of them.

But it's open to discussion ;) What defines in your opinion a Virtual World? Is it 3D by definition? Is it community?

Dobre vanBrugh, from Lost in the Magic Forest remarked at Second Life Blogo that he couldn't find any big omissions, but perhaps a few Chinese ones like Di Er Ren Sheng(My Life), Feng Yun Online and Legend Online (links anyone???).
