For those of you that find Second Life or any other Metaverse a bit overwhelming, here's Miniville. It's French though, so I had a hard time figuring out what you can and cannot do on this site.
It lets you create a nice little village by the sea.

Have you understood everything, now ? I just started one a few days ago, and I explored other people's cities... I found out you get the second option (industry) when you have at least 50 citizens, and then you can start making better roads when you have at least 100 citizens.
The rest I haven't found out precisely yet.
Of course, your city doesn't get polluted until you can make parcs.

Oh, another tip, I also found out you could do 2 clicks a day, if you do one click juste after midnight (french time) and one during the follwing day.
